Biggest NCAA Tournament Upsets

View a list of the biggest ncaa tournament upsets in recent history in the men’s college basketball ncaa tournament. There has only been 3 teams that were 11th seed in their region to make it to the final four.

The first big upset underdog was LSU as an 11 seed, the LSU Tigers lost to champion Louisville team but only after LSU beat Patrick’s Ewing and Georgetowm.

The second was George Mason who was also an 11 seed in 2006. George mason created one of the greatest upsets in tournament history making the final four in 2006.

Now in the 2011 NCAA tournament, the Virgina Commonwealth VCU rams have went on one of biggest upsets in the NCAA tournament after barely making it into the NCAA tournament and having to play USC in a play in game to actually make it into the tournament. This VCU team wasn’t even watching the selection show and they are the greatest NCAA tourney story to date as they had to play an extra game and everyone thought they shouldn’t even make the tournament. Today, March 27 2011, they have beat Kansas to make it to the final four against Butler and continue to their run as the biggest upset in NCAA in Tournament history.

If Butler can win the tournament in 2011 in Houston, then they would go on to be the biggest upset tying the lowest seed to win the tournament since eighth-seeded Villanova in 1985.
